French 75 Cocktail Kit Top Tip:
A French 75 tastes best when served refreshingly cold. Therefore, we recommend having plenty of ice to shake your drink with, plus having some fun flair with your serve. Careful when you pour the Prosecco, as it bubbles over quickly. However, a slow pour will mean more drinkable bubbles!
French 75 History
The French 75 was cocktail 75 in Harry's ABC of Mixing Cocktails in the 1920s. The name French 75 came from The Savoy Cocktail Book from the 1930s. It is a similar drink to the Tom Collins cocktail but uses Champagne instead of soda water.
Popularized in America at the Stork club in New York, The French 75 appeared in the movie Casablanca. More recently, the cocktail featured in the 2016 Mr Selfridges series.
One story about the French 75 creation references celebrating the firepower of the WWII French 75 mm field gun. An old classic but a decadent drink to enjoy. Difford's Guide has a few different recipes and listings with how the drink has evolved over the years since the original 1920s recipe consisted of Gin, Apple Brandy, grenadine and lemon. In France, the cocktail is just called Soixante Quinze (Seventy-Five).
